This work is set against the backdrop of Osaka merchants during World War II.
While the writing style isn't goosebump-inducing, the way it ties up plot threads within a traditional mystery narrative is quite good.
The way it connects the reality and absurdities of the Japanese military during WWII to a single murder case is also quite impressive from a thematic standpoint.
With only about half a day left of the weekend..
