As I get older, I find myself wanting to live closer to my parents.
Now that I'm getting a bit older..
My parents are also aging and starting to have some health issues,
and since we live far apart, it often weighs heavily on my heart.
It's not just about their health;
when they struggle with things like computers or smartphones,
I try to handle most things remotely,
but there are limits to what I can do.
Every time they face such inconveniences, I feel bad.
I can't help but think that if I were by their side, they wouldn't have to deal with such things..
Since they are elderly, if they need to go somewhere,
whether it's a region difficult to reach by KTX or a sudden trip like attending a funeral,
I worry a bit about them having to drive long distances.
I wish I could be the one to take them around... I wonder why life has to be this way.
So, I've been thinking a lot lately that
I should live near my parents someday.
My father-in-law passed away recently, and since then, that thought has become even stronger.
My parents aren't extremely wealthy,
but they have prepared for their retirement enough
that they don't need to rely on their children.
If my wife and I were to actually quit our jobs,
move down there, buy a small house, and live a simple life,
I feel like we could manage our living expenses
by allocating well into covered calls and high-dividend stocks..
But as I feel my parents' health declining,
I want to move down there as early as next year..
However, I'm afraid my wife might feel uncomfortable about it,
and I worry she might just suppress it inside without showing it,
so I can't bring myself to speak up easily.
I think these thoughts will only grow after I visit them this Chuseok,
so I should try to bring it up subtly
while having dinner or taking a night walk in the park with her.
I'm just feeling a bit sentimental,
and I wanted to vent a little by writing this down.
I hope everyone has a bountiful and happy Hangawi (Chuseok) with your families, close acquaintances, and relatives.
