Electric heating pads vs. electric mats, which is better?

‌I want to buy one before it gets cold. Up until now, I've been sleeping on my bed with a thin pad laid over an electric mat. But is it okay to use an electric heating pad the same way? I'm also wondering which company's product would be good to buy. Please give me some recommendations.
