The 25th Division, which recently suffered landmine casualties, belongs to the I Corps.
And that news report states that, shockingly, during the first half of this year, the I Corps ordered the removal of live ammunition from the machine guns of troops guarding the front lines.
As far as I know, the standard response when North Korean troops approach the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) from the north or actually cross it is to fire warning shots with several heavy machine gun rounds.
However, coincidentally, during the first half of this year, there was no distribution of live ammunition for heavy machine guns for warning shots at the I Corps front lines, which are responsible for the western front.
In the meantime, the North Korean military has been diligently fortifying the front-line MDL, and they have even established six minefields south of the demarcation line in the 25th Division's sector alone. This recent explosion has proven that they can deny our forces' approach to and reconnaissance of the MDL through these "terrain changes."
Can these events really be unrelated?
Lieutenant General Han Ki-seong, who was responsible for those actions, seems to have only been relieved of his duties without a proper investigation being conducted.
