Modern Korean history holds a bloody record that testifies to how human lives can be brutally slaughtered by a single 'stigma.'
During the Jeju April 3 Incident in 1948 and the Korean War in 1950, the most tragic atrocities committed on this land
were the summary executions of civilians carried out without judicial rulings or due legal process.
A single phrase: "That man is a communist." The moment that was declared, a human being's lifelong achievements and dignity were immediately
denied. Before any ideological standard, people were branded as 'communists' due to personal grudges, land disputes, or even informants.
And that label soon became a license to kill, a mandate that they were 'beings who can be killed' and 'enemies to be eliminated.'
The wailing of hundreds of thousands who lost their lives in the Bodo League massacre and in the mountain villages of Jeju—dragged to valleys and seas without trial—
was a historical tragedy that showed what kind of barbarism occurs when state violence and frenzied vigilantes put into practice the ideology that "communists can be executed."
Yet today, more than 70 years after that tragedy passed, the same slogans are resurfacing in the heart of South Korea.
And it is centered around far-right Christians who promote "Agape" as their ideology.
A society where someone openly writes on public SNS, "Communists must be executed" or "It is okay to kill communists,"
and then asks citizens with different views, "Are you a communist too?" Even after experiencing the tragedies of history,
the current reality—where this terrifying incitement to violence is dismissed as 'mere political nonsense' or 'the deviation of an extreme individual' and left unchecked—goes beyond misery to profound sadness.
Why does the Democratic Party leave these hate speeches, which are rampant online and at rallies, completely unaddressed ????
