Why can't they distinguish between spoken and written language?

I was at a restaurant a moment ago and heard the news refer to our language as 'Our language, Hangeul.' I can understand ordinary people making mistakes like that, but I don't get why even the media does this lol
Come to think of it, there was a time when KBS took issue with idols' English lyrics, and they've also criticized the use of abbreviations. It seems like this happens every year.
