What made RESCENE popular?

I know this group is trending lately, but I'm not quite sure what exactly made them blow up.
It doesn't feel like they rose to fame through songs and performances like NewJeans did.
Looking at the YouTube discussions, did they gain popularity through their variety show skills?
I haven't had a chance to watch their YouTube channel yet.
