Turkey seems to be surprisingly bad at sports

It turns out Turkey is a country that is surprisingly bad at sports.
They didn't win a single gold medal in the recent Olympics.
On the other hand, Georgia, a small neighboring country of Turkey, won as many as 3 gold medals.
It's not like they are good at professional sports either.
In football, they had great results during the Korea-Japan World Cup,
but since then, they've struggled just to qualify for the World Cup.
Even after the expansion to 48 teams, they barely made it to the recent World Cup finals, only to be eliminated early with 2 losses..
Among professional sports, the only one they are somewhat good at
is women's volleyball... they are terrible at men's volleyball though..
I can understand Indonesia because even though it's a large country, the people are Southeast Asian and physically slight,
or India because the country itself is a mess and they only obsess over cricket,
but Turkey is a leading power in the Middle East, has a stable administration, has reached middle-income status, and as Caucasians, they have a strong physical build.
It is truly a mystery why they are so incredibly bad at sports;
