People say Japan is ruined, but they are still ranked 4th in the world

The fundamental scale they have built up over decades is immense.
Looking at the local reaction in Japan, people are in an uproar and being self-deprecating over news that they might drop to 6th in the world next year.
If you only look at the "bullpen" (the periphery/support), Japan is like a dying middle-income country, but they are still a Tier 1 developed nation and a superpower.
It looks like it will take another 20 or 30 years before they fall out of the top 10.
