People who don't know anything bring up Seoul housing prices while arguing about FIRE
To be honest, I think the vast majority of people saying that have never even registered a deed to a house in Seoul.
To be blunt, I am certain that the psychological basis for those comments comes from people who haven't even managed to own a home in Seoul, and most of them likely have fewer assets than those aiming for FIRE. Those who do have assets probably own factories or something similar. I can at least understand people like that.
What they are actually doing is expressing jealousy—asking why others get to rest while they work their tails off to support their families.
People with significant net worth wouldn't even bother leaving those kinds of comments on YouTube; they'd just laugh it off. But when you're doing grueling manual labor and earning 4 to 5 million won, and then you hear someone is retiring by living off their savings, of course it's going to sting. This is Korea, after all. lol
I've noticed that most of the people in their 40s and 50s saying this are those who haven't even registered a home in Seoul and have families to support.
I'll go as far as to say that their rate of asset accumulation is probably faster than most people. If they had made up their minds to pursue FIRE in the first place, they obviously wouldn't be maintaining that level of consumption.
