A tragedy that occurred while trying to buy an iPhone in a developing country

I saw this post on X,
and I've seen a South American version of this before as well.
A young man in South America is going around borrowing money from everyone around him
just to buy a Pro or Pro Max model worth 2 million won.
In many developing countries, the iPhone is a symbol of wealth and trendiness,
so people go to extreme lengths to keep up with the latest iPhone.
When a new model comes out, they sell their existing iPhone for as high a price as possible as a used device,
then take out another installment plan;
that is why the resale value of iPhones remains high in developing countries.
In developed countries, it's not that difficult for even students to buy and maintain an iPhone by working a part-time job, so there is no perception of it being a symbol of wealth at all.
