The May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement of 1980: While staying in Paris, France at the time, artist Lee Ungno learned of the atrocities of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement through overseas media reports.
The intense shock he received, his sorrow for his compatriots, and his longing for democracy
became the decisive catalyst for the creation of the <People> series.
For your information, this is a painting owned by BTS RM, and the exhibition is at the SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) in the US.
