I should speak less as I get older

I just can't seem to stop.
At work, I try to keep conversations at a professional social level, but
when I talk to younger people, it feels like most of my attempts start as advice and end up turning into lecturing..
Since telling stories that offer no real inspiration or impact doesn't help anyone,
I've just started watching them struggle without saying anything.
Kids these days don't ask for help much. Maybe they think asking makes them look incompetent?
Ultimately, if they don't learn quickly, it's their own loss.
Making mistakes and fixing them alone just wastes more time, but I guess that's their own setback to deal with..
The other day, I was a passenger on the highway with a friend who was driving extremely dangerously.
I told them to maintain a proper following distance from the car in front, but they just laughed it off.
This is about safety.
I don't care about other things, but I really expected them to take that seriously..
