Unemployment benefits should only be as much as emergency livelihood support.
I heard that you can apply for emergency welfare in cases such as the death, runaway status, disappearance, incarceration in a detention facility, or inability to work due to severe illness of the primary breadwinner in a family; cases of domestic violence from household members; loss of residence due to fire or natural disasters; cases where business operations are practically difficult due to a fire at the primary breadwinner's workplace; or the unemployment of the primary breadwinner.
If selected as a recipient, they say they provide 783,000 KRW for a single-person household and 1,994,600 KRW for a four-person household, and even this is provided for a basic 3 months, with an additional 3 months only possible if there are special exceptional reasons.
However, it is said that current unemployment benefits allow one to receive 1.8 million KRW per month regardless of the number of household members.
Does this make any sense??????? People who travel around while collecting unemployment benefits get 1.8 million KRW a month, while for emergency welfare—where one can barely be selected because livelihood is difficult due to the death or unemployment of the primary breadwinner—one can only receive 1.8 million KRW per month if they are a four-person household. Does this make sense?? lol
If you say "how is that the same as the other," they aren't the same at all. I don't understand what the difference is between receiving 1.8 million KRW a month with a pittance that isn't even 1% of [the total budget] and emergency support, which is 100% tax-funded.
