Why Judaism and Islam Prohibit Eating Pork

No translation in your language yet — showing the English version

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all worship the same God, Yahweh.
The Old Testament's Book of Leviticus teaches that pigs are "unclean animals because they have split hooves but do not chew the cud,"
and thus prohibits eating them.
Jews and Muslims still strictly observe this teaching today.
Anthropologists speculate that the background behind the emergence of such theological teachings
is "the climatic characteristics of Israel, where germs are abundant and food spoils easily."
In reality, many people likely fell ill after eating pork.
On the other hand, Christianity (Catholicism, Protestantism, etc.) has no restrictions on eating pork.
This is because Jesus taught that "no food entering a person's body is unclean,
but rather, it is what comes out of a person's mouth that makes them unclean."
At that time, as the Jews' sense of being a chosen people and their isolationism reached their peak,
they went as far as discriminating against non-Jewish tribes who ate pork.
This was an extension of Jesus' teaching that "anyone can receive God's salvation
and everyone must practice love for their neighbors."
This inclusivity gave hope to many nations beyond Judaism
and served as the catalyst for Christianity to spread throughout the world.
