Are Chongqing flights always this expensive...?

I searched for flights to Chongqing from late October to early November,
and I'm quite taken aback that direct flights are priced in the 600,000–700,000 KRW range.
I checked other cities to see if it's the same, and Xi'an is similar.
Beijing or Tokyo are in the 300,000 KRW range even for good time slots,
so why are the Chongqing flight fares like this??
I recall that flights to Japan, which are relatively more popular, used to be more expensive,
while flights to Chinese cities were quite affordable.
