There seem to be so many people who give up on being human and just try to scrape by...

When working, it feels like most people try to permanently exclude emotional labor from their lives, and there seem to be so many individuals who have no intention of moving from small businesses to large corporations, choosing instead to live and die in the same place. What is the reason for this?
I am talking about people who, regardless of whether they have the personal capability or not, strongly refuse to transition from a small company to a large corporation and intend to end their careers exactly where they are.
Why is there such a tendency to give up on being human and live such cold, heartless, and indifferent lives until death?
