Gwangju's subway system is truly the worst of the worst
People are even saying that Line 1 completely bypasses the city center.
As for Line 2, they haven't even opened it yet, and construction costs are ballooning massively. There are rumors that the current 3.2 trillion won could swell to the 4 trillion won range; to give you an idea of the scale, the GTX-C project is 4.6 trillion won, and doubling the tracks for the Shinansan Line is 4.3 trillion won.
This is serious. The original total project cost was 1.7 trillion won. This means the project was originally something that could have been settled at the scale of the Dongbuk Line (Seoul Light Rail).
I have no idea what on earth they are doing to consume that much in construction costs. Among major cities, their financial status is also the worst.
In Gyeonggi-do, the current governor is just putting on a show to follow the President, but Gwangju has already exhausted its local government bond limit and even increased it further.
I truly cannot understand what they are doing to make it cost 4 trillion won.
