It's surprising that Brazil has no Nobel laureates. There might be some bias in the selection criteria.

South Africa also has 11 winners
Brazil is a major power, yet only 1? I don't remember exactly if they had none at all, based on some data I saw in the past, but
I would expect their basic sciences to be somewhat developed.
Does anyone know more about this?
