Two proposals regarding the military exemption controversy
My thoughts after seeing the controversy regarding military exemptions for Asian Games athletes
- Instead of military exemptions upon winning medals, we need to consider reducing the period of military service or providing other merits. The issue of fairness is more serious than the enhancement of national prestige through winning medals in international competitions.
- Since the military service controversy has been raised, I will add that women should also serve as public service agents equivalent to military service for the same duration as men. This should be done naturally without room for controversy. We no longer live in a society where women receive unfavorable treatment. Having only men serve in the military is not equitable. Women are also capable of performing tasks such as public service duty.
