Should I inform the company about the passing of a former colleague?

I had a friend at work whom I was close with, but they left the company about a year ago, and I just heard the news of their passing ㅠㅠ Since the funeral is being held privately as a family service, the family hasn't been sending out separate death notices..
Would it be right for me to inform a few people at the company who were close to them..?
