Due to Raditz's dying words, which showed overwhelming power by dominating Earth's strongest warriors, Goku and Piccolo, the author put an immense amount of effort into Nappa to showcase the long-awaited 'strength' of the Saiyans. He was virtually the first enemy to make the earth shake and rocks soar. Perhaps because he was drawn so powerfully, he made a much larger impact than Vegeta, who fought later. Some even argue that Nappa's actual terror and impact were greater than that of 'Frieza,' who was the ultimate boss in the story. While Frieza's victims included Vegeta (who was already destined to die due to betrayal) and Krillin (who had already died once and thus wasn't as shocking), many reactions suggest that seeing Nappa—who was merely Vegeta's subordinate—inflict unprecedented damage on allies like Chiaotzu, Tien, Piccolo, and Kami created a much deeper impact of sadness and fear.
