[Report] The Kyiv Independent, a prominent Ukrainian media outlet, has released critical reports stating that the public disclosure of North Korean prisoner transfers was a blunder by the Zelensky administration.
The reports suggest that this move has self-inflicted damage on relations with South Korea, a major weapons power.
President Zelensky has once again warned of the dangers of military cooperation between North Korea and Russia without making further comments regarding the disclosure of the prisoner transfers.
The Kyiv Independent strongly criticized the public disclosure of North Korean prisoner transfers as a diplomatic blunder by the Zelensky administration.
It pointed out that this adds another instance to the diplomatic mistakes where Ukraine is ruining its relationships with partner nations due to conflicts with South Korea.
It also noted that this is not the first time the Zelensky administration's communication methods have led to direct confrontations with partner nations, citing recent serious conflicts with friendly nations such as Hungary and Poland.
In particular, it highlighted that South Korea is a partner nation that holds the stockpiles of weapons Ukraine desires, noting that President Zelensky made a sudden public disclosure of the North Korean prisoner repatriation right after requesting air defense support from South Korea last month.
In Russia, claims have emerged that the background of Ukraine's disclosure of North Korean prisoner repatriation was driven by dissatisfaction over not receiving air defense support.
Through a columnist's contribution, the state-run RIA Novosti agency claimed that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung [sic]* has long opposed providing weapons to Ukraine, and argued that President Zelensky, despite promising to keep the prisoner transfers secret, acted out of spite in a retaliatory manner.
President Zelensky has not released any further positions regarding prisoner repatriation following his speech at the UN General Assembly.
Ukraine is in a position where it desperately needs every bit of help, yet it seems to be ruining relationships with Hungary, Poland, and South Korea alike.
