The core technology that creates Grade 1 water in Yeongju Dam.jpg

That is the oxygen supplier.
When a dam is built and water is impounded, the water volume increases and the water level rises,
which activates the buoyancy filtration system.
Buoyancy filtration refers to a filtration phenomenon where substances of different densities are separated by buoyancy due to gravity;
substances with higher density sink to the bottom, while substances with lower density float to the top.
Pollutants accumulated at the bottom of the river are decomposed by microorganisms, and this is when they begin to consume oxygen.
By drilling oxygen supply pipes from the side every 500m along the riverbed and installing them, oxygen can be supplied 24 hours a day.
By mandating the installation of dissolved oxygen meters and oxygen supply facilities at the lowest layer of the river,
the water quality can be purified 24 hours a day.
But why install them every 500m?
It is because it is more important to supply sufficient oxygen to the lowest layer rather than simply supplying a large amount of oxygen.
Since water with high dissolved oxygen has low density and rises due to buoyancy, installing them every 500m is ideal
to optimize the circulation of water with low dissolved oxygen at the bottom of the river.
If it were possible to supply oxygen at saturation levels throughout the entire river, it would be a different story, but doing so would result in significant waste of costs
and large losses as oxygen escapes from the water.
By operating them in a circulatory manner—turning on units 1 through 5 for 30 minutes, then 6 through 10 for 30 minutes, and so on—
the oxygen supply efficiency and coverage area are increased.
More dams need to be built, but the reason residents oppose them is due to the deterioration of water quality.
However, if a dam becomes a facility that actually turns water into Grade 1 quality, there will be no residents opposing dam construction.
When the dam water is discharged, the phenomenon of odors in the tributaries will disappear, and siltation will also be eliminated.
The core technology to make the water quality of all rivers in Korea, beyond the Yeongju Dam, Grade 1 is the installation of oxygen supply facilities;
the key is to install them in appropriate locations to use natural forces—utilizing buoyancy filtration along with microorganisms and aquatic life—to purify the water quality.
Increasing water volume and controlling pollution sources come after that.
