Is sleep paralysis actually dangerous?

In my case, there were times in the past when I had to force myself to wake up because I felt like my consciousness would be trapped in my body and I might die if I didn't move. It's less frequent now. I often wonder if elderly people with limited mobility might actually pass away if this happens to them while they are sleeping.
