The once-heated Messi vs. Jordan GOAT debate

(Before I begin, I am someone who loves both soccer and basketball)
I feel that Jordan should be compared to Pele rather than Messi.
Pele & Jordan: As the emperors of soccer and basketball respectively, they made decisive contributions to the globalization of their two sports; both are icons representing their respective disciplines.
Messi: Possesses an all-time number one level of career and skill in soccer, the most popular sport in the world, surpassing the influence of a symbolic figure like Pele.
If we were to compare this to basketball, should Messi be pitted against LeBron?
