Takaichi is facing a lot of criticism due to her "women's policies"

The laws that the Japanese people have long desired are
the "abolition of the same-surname system for married couples" and "allowing a female Emperor."
Japan established the same-surname law during the Meiji Restoration while imitating the West.
While the same-surname system is optional in the West, it is mandatory in Japan.
With Confucian concepts added, it became a symbol of women "joining" a family.
Furthermore, the current Emperor's daughter enjoys high public trust,
but she cannot become Emperor simply because she is a woman, and there are too few males in the Imperial Family.
Both allowing separate surnames for married couples and allowing a female Emperor are highly desired by the public,
but conservative lawmakers are opposing them.
Takaichi had high expectations because she is usually seen as a progressive politician regarding women's issues,
but her popularity is dropping as she has expressed opposition to both matters...
