Selling my current car to buy my dream used car—wife gave her approval haha
[Situation]
Current car: Grandeur IG Hybrid, purchased new in 2018 (currently at 110,000 km)
Wife's car: Sorento Hybrid, purchased this year
Since my wife bought a family car, I'm in a situation where I want to change my own car for a change of pace.
Excluding SUVs, EVs, and new cars from my options.
I'm thinking of selling my current car used and buying another used car.
My plan is to drive it for about 1 to 3 years, then sell it and buy a new EV.
However, I'm a bit nervous because I've never bought a used car before.
I convinced my wife by saying I could switch if I added about 3 to 4 million won to the sale price of my current car, and she agreed.
I was torn between a Mustang and a BMW, but considering I'll sell it again later, I'm leaning towards BMW.
Since I'm (a car novice), I brought up the idea of buying a 320i in my friends' group chat, but the majority opinion was, "Then why bother changing?"
Eventually, I leaned towards the 330i. Then I saw someone say the BMW M340i is a legendary masterpiece.
I looked up the used price for a BMW M340i and immediately backed down.
But after getting my wife's approval and searching more, it seems the target models have chronic issues such as:
1. Coolant upper pipe leak
2. Oil filter housing leak
3. Worn-out interior buttons (start button, AC buttons)
On top of that, regarding consumables:
[Consumables]
1. Engine oil/Oil filter (every 10,000 km)
2. ZF transmission oil (80,000–100,000 km)
3. Brake pads (every 40,000 km)
4. Oil filter housing leak (60,000–100,000 km)
5. Spark plugs, coils (60,000–80,000 km)
6. Drive belt (100,000–120,000 km)
I'm willing to accept those, but since I've only ever gone to Hyundai/Kia service centers my whole life, I'm already thinking about where to get maintenance done (even though I haven't even bought the car yet) lol.
Anyway, now that I've crossed the big hurdle of getting my wife's approval, it feels like the car is almost in my hands lol.
