Protest blocking the polling station at the Seoul Olympic Handball Gymnasium
Prosecutors have maintained a demand for a 2-year prison sentence
against a woman in her 40s accused of assaulting and insulting
police officers and protesters at the scene.
Ms. Kim is accused of using profanity and assaulting five people,
including police officers and protesters, at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu,
Seoul, on June 22–23.
In particular, she is charged with obstructing official duties by
asking police officers patrolling near the handball gymnasium gate,
“Are you Chinese police?” while attempting to film them, and
spitting on their faces twice when she was restrained.
In her final statement, Ms. Kim read a three-page apology letter
and pleaded for leniency through tears.
