I guess national athletes really are on a different level

A story my high school English teacher told me 20 years ago
One of my teacher's neighborhood friends
Was a "bull" type who dreamed of becoming a national Taekwondo athlete but failed
(He said he made it to the Taereung Training Center, but something didn't work out and he had to leave)
After finishing military service, when he was in his prime (mid-to-late 90s)
He was drinking with neighborhood friends when they got into an argument with some thugs
I heard the other side had more people
But that friend, the one who failed to make the national team, knocked two of them unconscious instantly with his kicks
So the rest of the thugs got intimidated and couldn't do anything....
My teacher admitted that he had actually been somewhat dismissive of Taekwondo before that lol
But after seeing those two thugs get taken out in the blink of an eye
His perception of Taekwondo changed 180 degrees ㄷㄷ
On top of that, he said he thought, "National athletes must truly be monsters"
"If someone who failed to make the national team is that good, imagine how good the actual national athletes are"
With that, the class ended
I just suddenly remembered it, so I'm writing this lol
