Humans can't stop it... Security industry says "AI must be introduced for hacking defense"
Recently, seven domestic financial institutions fell victim to AI-driven hacking attacks without any means of resistance. The defining characteristic was not a groundbreaking new hacking technique, but rather the use of AI to execute existing hacking attacks rapidly and on a massive scale. It is difficult for humans to block AI attacks that are carried out indiscriminately. The security industry is raising its voice, arguing that AI hacking must be defended by AI, and that if a proprietary AI model is unavailable, there is an urgent need to build a defense system using open-source models first.
According to financial authorities on the 5th, instead of directly stealing databases (DB), these financial institution hacks used a method of querying and scraping large amounts of customer information from webpages and servers. It is presumed that AI tools were utilized given the speed and repetitive nature of the method.
Traces of 'ARTEX', an AI penetration testing tool released as open source by a Chinese-speaking developer, were detected in the attacking IP (Internet Protocol). This means an AI tool intended for vulnerability assessment was exploited for hacking. ARTEX utilizes Large Language Models (LLM) to explore and analyze vulnerabilities and calls necessary tools to verify them.
The security industry argues that AI must be introduced for defense to prepare for automated AI hacking attacks. They suggest that attack data must be analyzed quickly through AI to identify correlations between different events. AhnLab CEO Kang Seok-kyun explained the necessity of investing in AI technology for hacking defense during a recent press conference, stating, "AI cyberattacks have exceeded the level at which humans can judge and respond in terms of productivity, speed, and scale."

Dozens of locations worldwide were breached in a single day by ARTEX, an AI whose source code was released by a Chinese developer for anyone to use, and voices are rising calling for an AI defense system, stating that only AI can stop AI.
