New technologies that fell short of expectations

‌1. Segway
- A sort of early-stage kick scooter; when it was first introduced to the market, it was hailed as a massive revolution in transportation, but it eventually dwindled into something insignificant.
- In reality, even kick scooters have not become as widespread as bicycles.
2. 3D Printers
- They were evaluated as all-purpose machines that everyone would have one at home to make whatever they wanted, but the adoption rate remains low.
3. Drones
- People believed that drones would deliver products right to their balconies when ordered and could be used as a free means of transportation like personal cars, but in reality, high-utility applications are limited to military and filming purposes.
- They haven't significantly surpassed the level of past wireless RC toys.
4. Humanoid Robots
- While they provide a lot of inspiration through their ability to walk or run like humans, it makes one wonder if there is a real necessity for them to go that far.
- For example, dishwashers can do the dishes, washing machines can do the laundry, and round robot vacuums can handle cleaning; there seems to be no need for a human-looking entity to roam the living room acting like a housekeeper.
