The trade war between Canada and the US seems to disadvantage the US

I don't understand why Trump keeps making enemies.
Following the fallout with the EU, it's now Canada. The US relies on Canada for crude oil and electricity imports. Because US oil consumption is so high, domestic supply cannot keep up. The reliance on electricity is even greater than on oil.
It seems everyone from Canadian politicians to citizens is uniting as "Team Canada" to respond to the US. They say they will only buy Made-in-Canada products when shopping.
The US is already struggling with inflation, and this will likely drive prices even higher. Canada's position is also understandable; it's bound to be infuriating when people spout nonsense claiming Canada is part of the US. Canadian citizens have a mindset of not letting this slide any longer, and politicians are also uniting as Team Canada.
