Update on Morse Tan

This is an update on former Liberty University professor Morse Tan (Korean name Dan Hyeon-myeong), who was issued a departure ban upon entering the country on charges of spreading false information and defamation regarding President Lee Jae-myung.
Application to lift departure ban rejected again (October 8, 2026): Former Professor Morse Tan applied to the Ministry of Justice for a stay of execution of the departure ban, citing the death of a grandmother, but the Seoul Administrative Court dismissed the request.
Status of prosecution referral: Following a police investigation, the case was referred to the prosecution in July on defamation charges. Having repeatedly lost administrative lawsuits and applications for stay of execution filed in protest against the extension of the departure ban, he is currently stuck in Korea undergoing investigation.
Dismissal of entire legal team: It has been reported that he dismissed his entire legal team during the process of repeated rejections of the lawsuits to lift the departure ban and the applications for stay of execution.
