What should I do about gout?
I have been drinking quite a bit lately.
My ankle started feeling strange the day after exercising last week, and it became difficult to walk. I went to an orthopedic clinic and was diagnosed with gout (this is my first gout attack).
My blood test result showed a uric acid level of 7.8.
However, the orthopedic doctor only prescribed Colchicine (medication to relieve acute attacks) and told me that since the level isn't very high, I should manage my diet, control my alcohol intake, drink plenty of water, and manage my weight.
He said that at 7.8, taking daily medication might be a bit much...
Just in case, I visited a family medicine clinic near my house, and the family medicine doctor thought that taking daily medication is the correct approach, but added that for gout, the opinions of an orthopedist or a rheumatologist are more accurate, so I should follow their advice.
What should I do?
Should I make an appointment with a rheumatologist at a university hospital near my house?
