It turns out it's an old Japanese culture where they vent their anger by shoulder-checking girls or women.
I found out about this while reading a Japanese news report.
Japan is a country that is extremely sensitive about these kinds of things being exposed externally,
but the recent global issue regarding shoulder-checking foreigners
started when a case involving a 5-7 year old Taiwanese girl went viral.
The incident where a child was shoulder-checked so hard she flew and was seriously injured spread worldwide.
Apparently, targeting foreigners with shoulder-checking (the "butsukari" culture)
accounts for less than 1% of the total shoulder-checking culture in Japan.
