GDP per capita isn't that meaningful

Even in the early 2010s, when South Korea's GDP per capita was in the $20,000 range, having one smartphone per person was already the norm.
People were ordering franchise deliveries just fine, eating out, and catching movies whenever they could.
Aside from personal electronic devices shifting from laptops to tablets, nothing has actually changed much.
