Why on earth do people hit the brakes on highway curves?

‌This is so frustrating.
And why do they hit the brakes on uphills or downhills?
You should just lift off the accelerator or press it harder.
I get why people cruise in the leftmost lane—it's just for their own convenience—but I have no idea why they hit the brakes at any random moment.
