Lately, people in China seem to view Chiang Kai-shek positively

He even appears as a cool, charismatic anti-Japanese hero in dramas and movies.
In co-productions with Taiwan, top-tier handsome Taiwanese actors are specifically cast for the role.
In the past, he was portrayed as the "bald demon and the primary enemy of the non-proletarian people,"
but now, they emphasize his anti-Japanese spirit and his qualities as a leader.
For modern Chinese people in the era of reform and opening-up, the idea that "Chiang Kai-shek is a bad guy!" doesn't resonate much.
Furthermore, because China tends to view the Republic of China as a former state rather than the current Taiwan,
Chiang Kai-shek is regarded as one of the historical heroes reflecting that era.
Politically, it is also a way to keep the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in check—the party that denies Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang, thereby somewhat blurring the sense of Chinese identity.
Among modern Taiwanese people, many view Chiang Kai-shek negatively as a dictator,
and this tendency is even more pronounced among Taiwanese independence activists.
