China has made its mark on semiconductors
According to Bloomberg,
Global memory semiconductor stocks are all showing weakness following news that China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has made progress in developing next-generation chip structures.
- According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), CXMT announced it has made a "key breakthrough" in developing a new cell structure that increases memory density.
- This is a technology that global competitors, including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, are also developing.
- As concerns over China's technological catch-up grow again, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix led the decline in Asian markets overnight, and the KOSPI recorded its largest single-day drop since early September.
Memory stocks such as Western Digital are also showing weakness.
Report details:
ChangXin Memory announced that it has made a key breakthrough in '4F²' technology, a next-generation DRAM structure that Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are also developing.
- CXMT explained that through its proprietary vertical transistor technology, VSG, it can reduce current leakage and increase memory density and power efficiency.
- CXMT plans to launch next-generation DDR5 memory products for servers using this technology by the end of this year.
