Why are some people insensitive to noise?

I don't think being insensitive to noise is caused by the degeneration of ear tissue or the brain.
When looking at elderly people, many of them dislike noise.
Since I often see young people who are insensitive to noise, I don't think it's due to the ears or brain degenerating.
Could someone explain this from a medical perspective?
