The Military. Are there any units where you aren't allowed to answer "Yes"?

I served in the 32nd Division. I wasn't allowed to say "Yes" (Ye); instead, I had to say "Understood" (Algetseumnida) or "That is correct" (Geureotseumnida). How were other units?
When a senior tells you something, is it okay to say "Yes"?
