Is it a matter of etiquette to message in group chats after midnight?

I am in various group chats, including work-related ones and casual social groups.
I am part of many different groups, ranging from those with 200–300 members to those with 500–1,000 or more.
Some say that messaging after midnight is a lack of manners or etiquette.

Others say that if it's bothersome, the person who finds it uncomfortable should just turn off their notifications.
Which side do you take?
