Military Service Exemptions Limited Only to Olympic Medalists and Top Winners of Global Science/Engineering Competitions
Exemptions for the Asian Games should obviously be abolished. In a divided nation currently under a ceasefire, where the annual birth rate used to hit 700,000, the fact that they still haven't amended the law shows that the country comes second to powerful politicians fearing they might lose votes. Because they keep glossing over it by saying "even a bad law is still a law," people end up giving reckless interviews like those idiots.
By next year, the generation with an annual birth rate of only 200,000 will be entering elementary school.
Please, this time, I urge the politicians to unite and pass the abolition of Asian Games exemptions. In modern Korea, the highly skilled generation of science and engineering professionals in their 50s will be retiring soon. It would be better to grant military exemptions to young people who win first place in prestigious global science and engineering competitions rather than in arts or sports.
