The Supreme Court has filed a damages lawsuit worth over 1.1 billion won against participants who stormed and caused chaos at the Seoul Western District Court last January.
On the 26th, the Supreme Court announced that it has filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court against five of the 18 individuals whose convictions were finalized for participating in the Western District Court riot, claiming a total of 1,175,899,770 won in restoration costs and delayed damages. It was explained that this damages lawsuit was filed following a prior legal review by the Litigation Support Center, which supports state litigation matters related to the courts. Previously, on the early morning of January 19 last year, following the issuance of an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, the rioters broke through the court's main gates and windows to storm the building, damaging furniture and facilities.
