Why is Japan so obsessed with corrugated cardboard?

During the Japan Olympics,
when they even used corrugated cardboard for the beds in the athletes' village,
rumors circulated that there might be something going on
because Abe's older brother is the president of a cardboard manufacturing company.
Honestly, from an environmental perspective,
it seems like a great idea,
but it feels like it lacks any sense of humanity.
Even in Japan now, there's a lot of talk about how the quality of their shelters
is being compared unfavorably to other Asian countries..
The problem is, the price is also expensive. T_T
