Do people really take antibiotics for as long as 3 weeks...?

They said something was wrong with my intestines and prescribed a 3-week supply of antibiotics, but I'm wondering if this was a misprescription. I've never been prescribed antibiotics for more than a week before; are there actually cases where you take them for 3 weeks?
