[RESCENE] Why is the Ahn-Won-Jal-Bu PD contemplating the use of subtitles (for global expansion)? (Just my personal theory)
This is just my personal theory.
1. Character Introduction
There will be a difference between new overseas viewers and domestic viewers who have seen the entire narrative of RESCENE.
In any case, I believe that the more people know, the more fun and moving the content can be.
Just to give one example, the Orange Game ending in Gyeongju Episode 3.
Even though the game was never introduced on Ahn-Won-Jal-Bu and I have never played it myself, I know what that game means to Jena. This is because I know RESCENE's narrative.
Therefore, I can better understand its significance as the ending to Kkaeng-i's search for her roots.
By assigning characters (Gyaru, the girl from the countryside with a dialect, Lit and Matt) to RESCENE in Season 1, it provides a stable member introduction for viewers and stably promotes RESCENE as key members of Ahn-Won-Jal-Bu.
On the other hand, from Season 2 onwards, those characters from Season 1 have mostly been discarded, and the show actively utilizes members that most Ahn-Won-Jal-Bu fans are already well aware of.
The best example of this is the Gyeongju Episode 3.
Instead of the girl with the dialect or Matt from Season 1, they actively utilize RESCENE's youngest members (the "jammin-z").
In the Kraken and Dragon Race, rather than seeing "Matt" from Ahn-Won-Jal-Bu, viewers who know RESCENE's talkative Mei will find many more points to enjoy.
Like this, I believe the current Season 2 is moving quickly for those who already know RESCENE's narrative without needing explanations.
For new overseas viewers, this will make it difficult to fully enjoy the fun,
and if they explain it, it will become boring for domestic fans.
2. Realistic Aspects
As you all know, Ahn-Won-Jal-Bu likely has little to no revenue from views.
They have to rely on PPL revenue, but it is difficult to expect PPL that will capture the overseas audience.
While they achieved very rapid growth domestically through RESCENE's narrative, it is hard to predict how much explosive growth can come from overseas fans who find it difficult to access RESCENE's narrative.
And one must also consider whether the Ahn-Won-Jal-Bu channel will continue to exist until then.
