To be honest, I thought we would win more gold medals than in Hangzhou

The reason I thought so is that I figured the 42 gold medals in Hangzhou were a result of low morale following the poor performance at the Tokyo Olympics.
I expected that we would see a recovery in Paris and achieve good results,
but it is unexpected that the number of gold medals is lower than in Hangzhou.
