"I am Prosecutor Kim Min-su": 67 arrested, including Chinese ringleader, in voice phishing gang that drove job seeker to death
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Metropolitan Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 17th that it has arrested 67 individuals, including a Chinese national in his 30s (referred to as 'A') who served as the ringleader, on charges including violations of the Special Act on the Prevention of Loss Caused by Telecommunications Fraud, and has detained 17 of them.
Police explained that 'A' was the leader of an organization that drove a job seeker in their 20s to death through voice phishing crimes involving impersonation of 'Prosecutor Kim Min-su' several years ago.
The group deceived victims by claiming they needed to transfer cash because accounts opened under the victims' names were being used for criminal activities, or by promising low-interest refinancing loans. During this process, they presented forged government IDs and false official documents containing case summaries.
